About Opera Skateboards

Who owns Opera Skateboards?

Opera Skateboards is owned and run by founder Bill Weiss as a brand within Sidewalk Distribution, the skater-owned distributor he launched with Louie Barletta, Bod Boyle, and Steve Douglas. The full story is below.

A Performance of One

Opera Skateboards was founded in 2023 by Bill Weiss, a skate industry veteran and the former head of Madness Skateboards. When Dwindle Distribution - long the home of brands like Madness and Blind - came to an end, Bill didn't walk away from the industry. He teamed up with Louie Barletta, Bod Boyle, and Steve Douglas to launch Sidewalk Distribution, and built Opera as his own brand within it, alongside Jacuzzi Unlimited and Slappy Trucks.

Why "Opera"

The name wasn't picked for the sound of it. Bill has described opera as "a performance of one" - a single voice carrying a story that's deeply personal, yet meant to be shared with a crowd. That's skateboarding too: one rider, one line, one trick attempted alone but landed in front of everyone. Opera leans into that idea on purpose - the drama, the storytelling, the theatrical streak that's always been part of skate culture, even when nobody says it out loud.

The Boards

Every Opera graphic carries a bit of that operatic spirit - bold, a little mischievous, built to stand out in a lineup of decks that all start to look the same after a while. The boards are built to perform first; the art is there to make sure they're remembered.

What We Believe

Skateboarding has always been about fun, part performance, part inside joke you only get once you have fallen enough times to earn it.
